CEO and Founder of Howard Strategies Group

Angela Howard, founder of Howard Strategies Group its President and CEO has spent the last 20 years in the Direct Mail Fundraising business.

She started her career in 1993 as a Production Assistant for the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s National Office in Washington, DC., where she worked her way up to a Production Coordinator, Production Manager, Account Manager and finally the Operations Manager by 1998. As the Operations Manager she oversaw the production and fulfillment of all PVA’s direct mail fundraising programs.

While she was at PVA, she had the unique opportunity to learn, work and manage a wide variety of fundraising programs which included, Premium and Non Premium , Sweepstakes, Collectible Plates, Knives and Pewter Airplanes.

While working on these programs, she developed production specifications for internal and external production staff based on strategic and creative direction, communicated with outside agency and internal staff to ensure satisfactory completion of both art and production projects, approved all cost estimates and production related invoices against budget, provided cost analysis of all mailings including testing and monitored mail dates and quality control, file updates and tape shipments for all programs.

In 2001, she ventured into the direct response agencies. While there she developed fundraising strategies for National Heart Foundation, Alzheimer’s Family Relief Program, National Glaucoma and Stem Cell Research Foundation, American Red Cross of Central Maryland, National Wildlife Federation, Dottie Wilson Ministries, Resole America, Great Expectations, National Grave’s Disease Foundation and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Her time at the agencies was spent directing the art department and external copywriters for strategy and creative of her client’s direct mail packages. She was also responsible for tracking and analyzing all of those mailings for return on investment and she applied results to future programs and goals. While managing these programs, they performed on time and within budget. While there she also reconciled all costs and provided budget projections as well as created and approved all purchase orders and instructions for data processing, lasering, lettershop, merge purge and data selects. She solely handled 12 mailings a month between Acquisition, Donor and Acquisition and Donor Sweepstakes programs for 3 clients.

As a result of company closures, Angela decided to start Howard Strategies Group in 2004 to utilize her many years of direct mail expertise and vendor relationships to better serve clients.
